Birth Order

I am the last born in my family and this, I think, has made me into a different person than I would have been if I had been in any different order. When I was growing up, I would follow my sister Kelly around who of course thought I was the most annoying person in the world. My parents would give me more stuff than my sister and they would give me more attention. I can distinctly remember my sister pulling them by the arm to get them away from me so she could talk to them and have their attention. My sister was the always the one who would set the bar, but not many know that my sister set the bar quite low. She wasn't very good at school and who my parents wanted her to be. She went wherever she wanted to go to college because it was one of the few schools that she actually got into. Unlike my sister, I've always been the one with legit aspirations and good grades. I also feel that since my sister was born first, she got to do many more things than me such as stay out till midnight and get a car at 17. I, on the other hand got my car at 18 and my curfew is still 11pm. I don't why but somehow, in my dad's mind, this is fair.

Relating to the article, I can definitely say that my sister and I do not fit the mold of the typical big and little sister. My sister is not the more successful and smarter one. I think that I am this person because I get really good grades while my sister is repeating classes and different courses. According to the article, the older sibling is supposed to be the one to have a great and respectful job. As of right now, I'm not exactly sure what the future holds but my sister is definitely taking a giant risk with her art inspired graphic design career. My sister has always been more creative than I have been and I don't know why but I'm proud of her for this even if she resents me always taking all my parents attention.

Nature vs. Nurture 11/9/10

I believe that the reason for the way that I am right now is because of nurture. If I had been born into a different family, I would probably want to be a different person than i am today. I could possibly look different with a different hair color and different clothes. For example, I'm not allowed to dye my hair but if I had been born into a different family, I might be able to dye my hair and therefore, I would look different. I think that nurture is the only deciding factor in who a person is. A person is, in my definition, what others allow them to be. A person doesn't just grow up from the way they were born into the same exact person. A person has to be taught to do certain and to follow certain rules. The environment around a person is what helps a person grow physically and intellectually. Another example would be if I was born into a family that rarely talked to each other. My family is huge and we talk to everyone and everything that moves. If I had been born into a family where they rarely talked to one another, I could possibly be silent and less likely to want to talk to other people.
